Leadership, decision-making and capability in complex environments

Senior leadership teams are often dealing with the same challenge from different vantage points: too much work, competing priorities, unclear decision rights, risk, changing expectations and pressure to deliver. This practical four-hour workshop gives leadership teams a way to step back, see the system they are operating in, and develop a shared approach to work, priorities, authority and decision-making.

I use a small number of well-established frameworks alongside real stories from leadership, government and organisational life. The session uses practical lenses including Cynefin, RACI and locus of control, applied directly to the leadership team’s own environment.

I also bring stories and lessons from leading in complex, high-pressure environments to help teams recognise the unspoken dynamics that often sit underneath organisational problems: where authority really sits, how people respond to ambiguity, why work gets stuck, and how leadership behaviours shape the system around them.

This flagship workshop has now been delivered with SES-level divisional leadership teams, with particularly strong feedback on its practical application. The focus is not on completing a full planning process in the room, but on creating clarity, alignment and momentum.
